Today's plan... was to go over to my Moms and help with organizing a few things.. My diversion started early at 9am when I noticed a garage sale 1 block up from me... come to find out.. the lady who had the sale is an artist.. (and I KNOW I know her from somewhere but just cannot place her).. well.. to ALL artists reading this.. you are going to FLIP when you hear this...... the HOME where she had her sale IS her studio.. (THE HOME ITSELF... the ENTIRE THING.. is her studio!) AND she has a STUDIO in back of her HOME thats her STUDIO that is her workshop/teaching area.. and SHE lives in the HOUSE next door! HA! Imagine THAT! Her name is Susan Russell.. she is FULL of life and energy! Hopefully we will be meeting at the coffee shop down the block for a visit/chat soon! Just LOVE it when paths cross!
I purchased the white set of drawers, the file drawer, the tintypes, 1 book, and the wooden boxes with shelves... (story behind them) there! Susan's Dad made the wooden boxes with the shelves. She told me the story.....they were used (long ago) to train canaries. They were trained to only speak when the doors would open and they were housed in the individual areas--4 to a box (sounds actually kind of cruel to me.. but not to worry.. there will be no canaries in them this century.. only books and knick knacks..). I plan to paint them!
Starting the day with such an exciting diversion and KNOWING that the Salvage Studio (see last week's post) is only open on Saturdays.. I just HAD to bring my Mom there to show her how cool it is.. Well.. one thing led to another and we ended up going to lunch at Olives Cafe in Edmonds (FABULOUS food by the way) and then browsing through the antique stores and hitting an estate sale...
The box of things you see with the old baby shoes in it was in the FREE pile at the estate sale!!! Gotta love that! The dolly... well... I picked her up at first and was drawn to her cute little dress with the embroidered birdies, but didn't want to pay the marked $8.00 for her (I know.. they go for a lot more on ebay..) so I had no intention to buy her. Mom and I got in the car to leave... and all I could think of was poor Woody from TOYSTORY when he got left behind and was separated from Andy. I thought that poor little tattered dolly.. looks like she's been in a house fire and no one is going to love her and give her a new home! SO.. needless to say, I went back in, offered the lady $5.00 and she accepted! The little dolly is home with me now! :) (don't ya love happy endings?)
So.. that was the gist of the day! We didn't accomplish what we set out to do,, but we sure had fun deviating!!! HOOOORRRRAAAAYYYY for the good days in life! We had so much fun!
