The “kids” (Bailey and Scout) get SO fired up when we even mention “wanna go for a walk”. I can’t even imagine getting that excited about anything! So from the moment we even mention it, to the actual act of getting them dressed for it, is like a circus arena. They are talking, playing, barking, jumping, and just hyped. I would have to say that out of the two of them Scout gets the most hyped.
Last night after getting them dressed in their walking duds (which consists of leashes and collars) Jeff thought it would be funny if he teased Scout a bit and pretended like Bailey was the only one going for the walk. So Jeff walked out the door with Bailey and left Scout and I behind in the house.
Scout FREAKED! He was like a child who got left behind while the others went to the candy store! Although it was quite comical, it was in essence somewhat mean I suppose. I stayed inside with Scout for no longer than a minute while Jeff and Bailey were outside. (A minute was all I could take of the teasing torture) Scout was crying at the top of his doggy lungs and pleading like he was saying “NOOOOOO,,, don’t leave me behind… I WANT TO WALK with my SISTER!!!”
So I opened the front door with leash in hand. Scout was more than ready to dart and catch up with his sister wherever she may have been. Unbeknownst to me Jeff and Bailey were hiding on the side of the house. After that everything seemed to flow in slow motion.
For the first few seconds when the front door opened Scout panicked at the sight no Sissy in sight….. until they appeared from the side of the house. He was SO excited at the thought of “they didn’t leave me after all” that he FLEW 100 mph off the front porch towards them.
This is where the slow motion comes into effect…..
For a split second I thought to myself… oh no…he is gonna pull me… but it wasn’t time enough to let my brain register and react to LETTING GO OF THE LEASH!
The leash lost its slack in a matter of milliseconds,,,,,, and there I was FLYING parallel to the ground OFF the porch steps and onto the front lawn!!!! (we are talking at least 10-12 ft)
I landed (leash still in hand) on my stomach, and at this point Scout was back towards me… “c’mon Mom,, we need to walk,, they didn’t leave us after all,,, c’mon!”
Luckily I had prepared for the walk thinking it was going to be a bit nippy and put on my big marshmallow coat—which I think saved me in the long run.
Jeff helped me up (laughing hysterically) and brushed me off…..
He said it looked like something out of a cartoon… just picture a rope loosing all its slack and POP you’re flyin!
I came out unharmed—just a little sore,,, and needless to say we BOTH laughed the entire walk (the dogs oblivious really to what had just happened—after all they just wanted to walk)
Lesson #1 BEWARE.. the next time you tease your dogs… it COULD backfire!
ahhh..what a great pic of your family stacie!
